Upland (Calif.) duo update

The Nebraska staff is still trying to put the finishing touches on the 2011-12 recruiting class and they were back out in California last week. There are two seniors there at Upland (Calif.) that Nebraska seems interested in, but there was another reason for Nebraska to stop by too. How are things looking for Nebraska?

Coach Mike Esquival from Upland (Calif.) confirmed that the Nebraska staff was by the school last week to see Colorado commitment, Marques Mosley, and also Christian Powell.

"Coach Corey Raymond and Coach Ron Brown were here last Wednesday," Esquival said. "They wanted to see Mosley and Powell. They also wanted to get a look at one of our juniors."

Mosley is a player that Nebraska seemed to see the potential in first, but was a little late in extending an offer in comparison to some others. Mosley has committed to Colorado, but seems to be thinking a little about Nebraska.

"They had a good position meeting with Coach Raymond and Mosley. Coach just put everything out there for Mosley and he's going to think about Nebraska and his commitment to Colorado. I think that he will take the rest of this week and maybe this weekend."

While Nebraska seems to have been able to put a dent in with Mosley they might have found that the door is closed and locked with Powell. According to Coach Esquival, Nebraska might be a little too far away from home.

"Christian's mom is very close with him since they lost his brother a few years ago. She would really like him to stay local. Coach Brown was very honest with him though and told him that they had him as their #1 fullback on their board."

Coach Esquival went on to say that he believes Powell's favorites are UCLA, Colorado and Nebraska in that order. "That is based on location and mom's preference to keep him closer to home."

They junior that Nebraska stopped in to see sounds a lot like Mosley in some ways, because Nebraska was recruiting him as an athlete, but this one is a little taller.

"Nebraska is really high on our junior, James Johnson. He's a 6-foot-3 and 195-pound strong safety or wide receiver. They are going to stay on top of him and Nebraska is definitely a school he can see himself at and he's very interested what they have to say."
