In January, Big Red Report was the first to tell you about Milton high school (WI) defensive end A.J. Natter. The 6-foot-6, 230 pounder picked up an offer from the Huskers shortly before Signing Day, but wasn't exactly expecting it at the time.
"I have been in close contact with Nebraska and Coach Papuchis down there. I have always been interested in them since I got my first letter from them," said Natter, who called Coach Papuchis one night, not knowing that by the end of the conversation he would have some exciting news.
"I was planning on just talking to them about their junior day," said the 2013 product. "But he told me that he sat down the with Coach Pelini and the new defensive line coach and they are both fired up about me."
Natter earned 1st team All-Conference and 1st team All-Area honors as a junior, after recording 74 total tackles, seven sacks, four forced fumbles, one blocked kick, and one blocked punt.
"It's just a surreal atmosphere in Lincoln," said Natter who has visited twice. "I come from Wisconsin, so I compare a lot of schools to Madison. Lincoln is another Madison of the Midwest. I think it's easier to get around, but the fans and game day atmosphere is crazy. I'm used to the game day partying and festivities, but it's different in Lincoln. They are ready to play football. Walking down the tunnel with all the fans it's just great.
"I grew up a Badger fan, but it's not necessarily my dream school. I'm open to anything right now. Coming into the recruiting process, I told myself that I wasn't going to let anyone affect my decision besides who wants me and where I want to go to school."
One key component that Natter will look at is the depth chart.
"I think Coach Papuchis said they have four defensive ends leaving," said the junior. "Those are the opportunities I'm looking for. It's not oh, they gave me a scholarship, but oh, I have a chance to play there."
