Elliott talks about Nebraska visit

Surprisingly, Nebraska went after a running back last year in the 2012 recruiting class nabbing a big-time runner in Imani Cross. This after three talented freshman running backs and not red-shirting either of them last season. Still, Rex Burkhead will be a senior and replacing him might be easier as an aggregate rather than a whole. Unless, you are Ezekial Elliott.

It was junior day weekend at Nebraska this past weekend and one of the more heralded recruits in town was St. Louis (Mo.) John Burroughs running back Ezekial Elliott.

"I had a basketball game on Friday night," Elliott said. "We took off after the game and drop to Kansas City. We had a two hour drive in the morning to Lincoln from there.

"First thing we did was get a chance to hear Tom Osborne speak. He introduced the staff to all of the recruits and from there we checked out the academic support. It was great to see the athletics and academics come together."

The academics are one of the selling points for Nebraska that recruits are necessarily counting on coming into the visit. The facilities are exactly the opposite. The recruits have all heard about Nebraska's facilities, but still come away impressed.

"We took a tour of the facilities. Nebraska has great facilities. I really liked the weight room, the locker room, the training table and the training area. Their facilities are possibly the best I have ever seen. I was speechless."

Of course there is always time for some one on one with the coaching staff and Elliott found himself tied at the hip with two of the Nebraska assistant coaches.

"Coach John Garrison is my recruiting coach and I talk to him weekly on the phone and we always exchange Facebook messages. I also sat down with Coach Ron Brown and we talked about the offense and how they see me fitting in.

"We talked about the three running backs they brought in the year before, but Coach Brown said that they really looked at me more like Rex Burkhead as opposed to any of the guys there currently. They are looking for a stronger runner and get bigger at the position."

This was Elliott's first time in Lincoln and he came away impressed with the visit. "I would give it an "8". I really didn't know what to expect of the visit going into it. I really don't know how it could have been any better."

Elliott has been busy on the junior day tours and things won't be slowing down for him anytime soon. He attended two before Nebraska and has plans to attend three more in the coming four-five weekends.

"I went to Missouri and Ohio State the week before I went to Nebraska. I go to Illinois this weekend, Arkansas that following weekend and then I head to Notre Dame on March 24th. I have already been to Notre Dame this past fall for a game."
