Huskers getting close?

There is clearly a need for Nebraska and an emphasis in recruiting so far for 2013 in trying to get a top-flight tight end. Nebraska has offered some of the best in the nation and another could be getting an offer soon. What would a Nebraska offer mean to this tight end?

Christian Morgan isn't playing any spring sports, but that doesn't mean that he's taking it easy either. He's taking the time this spring to get ready for spring ball and his senior football season.

"I am just working out a ton," "It's nice to be able to take a season off to really focus on what I need to do and improve on the little things that I need to do. It's been nice."

The 6-foot-4 and 244-pound tight end says that there were some areas of focus for him this spring to work on. It mainly centered on being more explosive and route running.

"I wanted to take a well-rounded approach and work on everything. For me I really wanted to work on my explosiveness. I wanted to work on quick bursts and route running."

Morgan has been to see a number of schools. He didn't really have any other plans coming up in the immediate future beyond maybe getting back to Arkansas for a spring practice and over to the Nike training camp next month.

"I went to see Miami recently. Besides that I have been to Baylor for Junior Day, Arkansas Junior Day, Texas Tech Junior Day and I went back to Baylor for a basketball game. I will also be doing the Nike training camp on May 25th."

The tight end position has really become the spot where you can find the top athlete. The players there need height, size, speed and athleticism. Morgan actually describes himself more as an athlete that plays the tight end position.

"I describe myself as really more of a jumbo athlete. I think my strength is my versatility. I think that I am a match up problem in the passing game and I think that I can seal the edge in the running game when it comes to blocking."

There are a dozen offers on the table right now for Morgan and after the spring evaluation period that number could easily double. He says that his college decision will be based on how comfortable he is at a school and if he can see himself there as either a star on the field or just a student.

"I have 12 offers right now I think. I am looking for a comfort level at the school. I have to spend four or five years there. I have to make sure that I am happy there. I also look at playing time and where I can be the player I feel that I can be. Another thing is coaching staff. You need to trust the guys recruiting you and feel that they will be there your entire time there as well."

The Nebraska staff has been in steady contact with Morgan and he believes that an offer could be close. He knows about Rex Burkhead coming from Plano and he thinks that there could be a lot of local hype if he just took a trip to see Nebraska if they offered.

"I think that they are really close to offering. I think that it would be huge to get that offer. They told me that they aren't fast in pulling the trigger in their offers. I haven't looked a lot at them, but I like how they are on offense being more of a power offense. I would be interested in seeing what they have to offer."
