Woods talks Nebraska offer

The effort in Georgia has picked up for Nebraska since Terry Joseph joined the staff in Lincoln. One of the recent recruiting targets for the Huskers to pick up an offer from the state of Georgia is Jay Woods. Woods says that Nebraska is a school that he will definitely be considering officially visiting later this year.

No off-season sports for Jay Woods. The 6-foot-3 and 275-pound defensive tackle from Jackson (Ga.) says that the off-season workout program at his high school is demanding enough to keep him and the rest of his team mates in shape.

"We have a good off-season program," Woods said. "It really started up after our season came to an end. We work out in the mornings doing weight training. In the afternoon we are doing more drills and conditioning."

Woods says that he walked away from his junior year wanted to get better at getting off of the run block. He found himself getting double-teamed a lot last year inside and he wanted to be better prepared with how to beat multiple blockers.

"I wanted to improve against the run block. I felt like my weakness from last year. I had a good junior year, but I thought I could get better at that. I got a lot of double-teams and you have to get off of them."

Woods is an active defensive tackle and provides a good pass rush from the inside. He says that he has a couple of moves that he likes to use the most when it comes to rushing the quarterback. "My strength is the pass rush. I feel like I do that very well. I like to club and rip and then I can combo that up."

There have been some opportunities for Woods to get out and see some schools so far this spring. He has been eyeing a couple of other schools as possible visits later this spring or in the summer as well.

"I have been to Auburn, Alabama, Georgia, Georgia Tech and South Florida. I have been to their junior days and other unofficial visits. I think that I am going to go to Duke and Vanderbilt wants me to visit too."

The latest offer for Woods came from Nebraska. The Huskers offered just last week and Woods says that the Nebraska offer is a good fit for him among the many other schools that have offered. The offer did come as a surprise to him initially, but he knows why he got it in the end.

"I just got the offer from Nebraska last week. Nebraska fits on my list really nicely. Growing up I would watch them and they were a powerhouse program. Their offer was a surprise. I didn't even know they were looking at me.

"Coach Terry Joseph was recruiting me at Tennessee originally and now he's at Nebraska. I feel like he really wanted me at Tennessee and now I know that he still does at Nebraska. I talk to him at every week. He's doing a great job recruiting me."
