Hannon checks out Lincoln

It's spring break in Lincoln so it's not an ideal time to host a heralded recruit, but Nebraska made do when Zach Hannon said he wanted to visit. Hannon, a 6-foot-5 and 295-pound offensive tackle from Kansas City (Mo.) Rockhurst came away impressed with his first visit to Nebraska.

Kansas City (Mo.) Rockhurst is a familiar high school to Nebraska fans. Nebraska landed Michael Rose last year and has set their sights on Zach Hannon this year. Hannon visited Lincoln this weekend.

"I got up there Saturday at noon," Hannon said. "Nebraska is on spring break so it was really more of a one on one situation. I met with Coach Barney Cotton first and then the first thing we did was go to the weight room and met with Coach Dobson.

"I met with Ben Cotton after that and he showed me around the other facilities like the locker room. I took a tour of the academic support facilities and it was really, really nice. I met with Coach Pelini then for about 45 minutes and then Coach Cotton again for a while."

This was the first visit to Lincoln for Hannon, but he's heard a lot about it. Hannon says that the recruiting coach as well as Rose have had a lot of things to tell him about what he will see when he visited Nebraska.

"This was my first time to Lincoln ever. I think that the visit went above and beyond any expectations that I had for Nebraska. Words don't really do it justice. Mike Rose is always talking to me about Nebraska. It was great to experience it, meeting Coach Pelini and seeing it all for myself."

Rose was a key to the 2012 class because of the position, being from Kansas City and also being active in recruiting other players. Rose is continuing that tradition in 2013 and helping with Hannon.

"Mike has been known as one of Nebraska's top recruiters. He's told me it's my decision, ultimately. He's told me some things about Nebraska; the academics at Nebraska as well as the football."

Hannon said that Rose did not accompany him this past weekend and the initial plan was for both to get back to Lincoln in mid-April for the spring game. Hannon had planned on it before he found out he already had plans.

"He was going to come up with me this weekend, but he decided to wait to come back up until the spring game on April 14th. I can't get back up that weekend because I have a lacrosse game and I take the ACT that weekend."

While Hannon won't be able to get up to Nebraska for the spring game he might actually get back before the spring game. Hannon is making a trip to check out a Big 12 team the weekend before and after that, coming home, he said that he plans to stop by Lincoln to see a practice.

"Most definitely. I am going to Oklahoma on April 7th so I am thinking about getting back up to Nebraska on April 9th after I see Oklahoma. I think that it would be great to get up there and see first hand how the coaches coach in a practice."
