More w/ Joe Mathis

The nation's No. 8 defensive end will always his remember trip to Nebraska.

Upland high school (CA) 4-star defensive end Joe Mathis will always remember his first tornado warning. Visiting last weekend for the Red-White spring game (canceled due to weather), Mathis was hanging out with players on Saturday night when the sirens went off.

"I started to freak out, yelling, 'what's that.' It was like I was in a movie and the sirens were going off because of aliens or something. It was crazy," said Joseph. "We were in the dorms and all of the football players were telling me, 'we will be okay.'

Mathis, the nation's No. 8 defensive end, said the bad weather didn't' put a damper on his trip at all. On Friday night, he told Big Red Report in an exclusive HD video interview Nebraska was now the leader for his services. Now after time to reflect on his trip, Mathis hasn't changed his tune.

"I had a lot of fun. Michigan was fun and had my friends with me, but Nebraska was much more chilled," said Mathis. "I think the Nebraska trip was great because I was with the coaches all the time. At Michigan, I only saw them once, which wasn't as cool.

"I wanted to see the game, but they showed me a lot of film on them instead. I was impressed. Seeing the game would have been a plus, but it's not a big deal. I actually got to spend a lot of time with Coach Bo because of it, so it was pretty cool."

Mathis is in the works to schedule an official visit to Nebraska, likely on the same weekend the Wisconsin Badgers come to town.

As a junior in 2011, he recorded 80 tackles, eight sacks and two forced fumbles. He currently has offers from schools like: Alabama, Michigan, Notre Dame, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, and USC including his one from Nebraska.
