"My coach came to my class and I walked out in the hall with him. He told me that Nebraska just offered me and I called Coach Cotton back after class."
Gerry said that he was a little giddy going back into class. The teacher put Gerry on the spot too asking him to share the news that Gerry had received with the class.
"I was jumping around a little bit on the inside when I went back into class. The teacher asked me if I had any news that I wanted to tell the class. I just said, "Kinda…Nebraska just offered me."
From the get-go, Gerry has said that Nebraska has been a dream school. Gerry has grown up a fan for Nebraska and while all of the offers that Gerry has received mean something to him the Nebraska offer does present some unique values to him and his family.
"All of the offers mean a lot to me. I have known about and followed Nebraska for a while now though. It's a big time program. It means a lot. It's close and my parents could come to all of my games."
Gerry is planning on concentrating on track now and trying his best in state before taking off and doing a Nike combine. After that he's not sure about any other plans for camps or to see any other schools.
"After state track I am going to go to the Nike combine in Memphis, Tenn. That combine is on June 1st. I have already qualified for state track. I will be running the 100m, 200m, 4x100m and doing the long jump."
The timetable for a decision seems to be some time before the season starts for Gerry. There will be a time when he plans on trimming his list, but as of now he's completely open to all schools.
"I am thinking that want to make a decision before my season at the end of the summer. I will narrow things down a little later; as of right now though I am completely wide open for anything."
During spring game weekend Nebraska told Gerry they saw him as an outside linebacker. Now Nebraska sees him at another position initially, but realistically Nebraska sees him fitting in at a number of positions potentially.
"Nebraska actually told me that they want me as a safety now. But, they said that if I continued to put on weight that I could definitely move down and play linebacker.
"They said that honestly I could play four positions for them. They like me as a safety, as a linebacker, they like me as a nickel or a package guy on defense and they said that I can definitely do special teams."
Gerry is now holding offers from Iowa, Montana, North Dakota State, South Dakota, South Dakota State as well as Nebraska. Big Red Report will be catching up with Gerry a little later tonight to talk more about the offer.
