Johnson will see Lincoln next month

Toby Johnson was supposed to be an unofficial visitor for the spring game weekend in Lincoln, but he was unable to make it. Johnson says that Nebraska has been by his school recently, but isn't recruiting him very heavily. He says that he still likes Nebraska…a lot.

Toby Johnson, a 6-foot-3 and 296-pound defensive tackle at Hutchinson (Kans.) J.C. by way of College Park (Ga.) Banneker, is having a busy spring semester. Spring ball is over and the schools come day after day to see this monster of a defensive tackle.

"There are a lot of coaches coming by," Johnson said. "We are done with spring practices so when they come to the school I usually just go in and left and they come over and watch. We don't go out and do any drills or anything like that."

Johnson is wide open, no leaders. He says that he hasn't trimmed his list at all and is sitting on 22 offers. He says that everyone that has offered has come by to see him at school and there are a number of schools who haven't offered who have also stopped by.

"I don't have any leaders. I haven't trimmed my list down or anything. It's been pretty busy around my school. USC, Georgia, Louisville and all of the other schools that have offered me have been here. I am up to 22 offers right now."

The original plan for Johnson was that he would make his college decision before his season started. That has changed now after all of this interest. He knows that he is going to have to see some of these schools for their home games to make the right decision.

"I think that I am going push my date back. I don't think that I am going to commit before the season anymore. Originally I wanted to commit in July or August. I want to see these places. I want to see their home games.

"I have been researching them and evaluating them, but I want to see how they play and see how I can fit in with my style of play. I will take some official visits. I am going to take some trips this summer too, but I don't know where."

Johnson was supposed to slip up to Nebraska for their spring game with one of the coaches at Hutchinson. That fell through, but there are still plans to visit Nebraska. In fact, Johnson says that he has plans to get up to Lincoln next month for an unofficial visit.

"I was supposed to go up to see Nebraska for their spring game. I couldn't go that weekend. They have been by to see me here at the school and I am going up to see them sometime next month. I don't know which date.

"Coach Rich Kaczenski and Coach John Garrison are recruiting me. Coach K is the position coach and Coach Garrison is my recruiting coach. I still like them, but they aren't recruiting me very hard anymore. I am still interested and still like them a lot."
