Huskers stop by to see Treadwell

Nebraska was able to dip into Illinois last year and pull a couple of players to Lincoln. One of those players was Jordan Westerkamp, a wide receiver. Nebraska is after another wide receiver from Illinois and right now Nebraska is on the outside looking in.

The evaluation period is hectic. You get the first glimpse of the recruiting fish bowl and Laquon Treadwell from Crete (Ill.) Crete-Monee says that he's had a lot of colleges come by to see him.

"It's going pretty good," Treadwell said. "There have been a lot of schools that have been to see me. The teams come while I am in class, but they stick around and watch me lift or workout outside."

There aren't any spring practices and Treadwell isn't running track so he's just working out on his own. He says that he's really trying to improve his footwork right now with drills he's been doing.

"I am really working on footwork. I am doing a lot of footwork drills like the cone drill and box agility drill. I am just trying to get quicker, shiftier and in and out of breaks."

Treadwell has good size for a wide receiver, 6-foot-3 and 190-pounds, and he uses it to his advantage. He says that he can go and get the ball, sacrifice his body, doesn't fear the hit and likes to block.

"I am physical at the point of attack. I can go and get about any ball that is in the air. I am not scared to get the ball and make a play. I can take a hit. I love to block too."

Treadwell says that there are some plans to get out and see some colleges this summer on unofficial visits. He doesn't know where he will visit, but he thinks he knows about two official visits that he will take.

"I will probably take a couple of unofficial visits before summer camps starts, in June sometime, but I am not sure where I will visit yet.

"I will probably take three of four of my official visits and then make my decision. I will probably officially visit Oklahoma and Oklahoma State. I am up to 23 offers right now."

Treadwell says that he wants to find a passing offense that has the signal caller in place already. And Treadwell is also looking for a school where he's comfortable with the coaches and players.

"I am looking for a school that has a great quarterback, a nice coaching staff, a place where I am comfortable and a place where I like the players."

Nebraska has extended an offer to Treadwell, but simply put there hasn't been enough conversation and development of a relationship with Nebraska to really feel comfortable about them.

"I think that Nebraska is a great school; great academics and great coaches. I just haven't had a lot of conversations with the coaching staff from Nebraska.

"Nebraska was just here at my school last week some time. I saw them when they were here, but I am not sure who the coach was that was here."
