LaCouture calls weekend a success

Christian LaCouture didn't need convincing this past weekend while he was in Lincoln that Nebraska was the right place for him. In fact, he was in Lincoln to spread the message that something great is brewing in Lincoln. LaCouture raved about Nebraska's efforts this past weekend; the coaching staff and the current commitments.

School is in right now for Christian Lacouture. He had mid-terms today as he works ahead to get out of school a semester early to enroll at Nebraska in the spring. The standout defensive lineman from College Station (Texas) A&M Consolidated was in Lincoln this past weekend and said that the weekend went well.

"It was a huge success," LaCouture said. "I chatted with all of the recruits that were invited as well as the other commits. I got a chance to meet with some of the uncommitted players a lot.

"I spoke with Nathan Gerry, before he committed, and I am glad that he got on board and committed. I also spent a lot of time with Darian Claiborne, he and I are close, and I know that he had a great time. I also spoke a lot with 2014 recruits Cedric Collins and Peyton Newell. I know that they both had good visits and Newell looks really athletic."

There was some time leading up to the actual Big Red Weekend on campus when some of the visitors gathered together. LaCouture said that it was great to have that time together with future team mates.

"We went to Josh Banderas' house on Friday night. It was Josh, me, Nathan Gerry, A.J. Natter, Greg Hart and Dan Samuelson that were there. It was good to talk to those guys. We have a good group coming together."

The immediate results of Big Red Weekend are visible by viewing the commitment list. Nebraska brought in two commitments since last Saturday. LaCouture says that the effects of Big Red Weekend will still be felt in weeks to come.

"Oh yeah it was a success. I know that there were two commitments, but the chemistry that is starting with the commitments is big. Plus, the guys that aren't committed and are considering Nebraska love the family oriented environment.

"I thought that the whole weekend was a huge success. Like I said, there were two commitments from the weekend already, but in the long run there will more other commitments in this class that visited this weekend."

LaCouture says that the commitments are talking about setting up their official visit to Lincoln right now. That will be the next time he gets a chance to get back to Lincoln and he says that he is eying either the Michigan or Wisconsin game.
