More from Stanton

Come inside as Big Red Report has more from the newest Husker commitment Johnny Stanton.

The wait is over for Nebraska fans as the Huskers hauled in their 13th known verbal commitment today from Santa Margarita (Calif.) Catholic in Johnny Stanton. Stanton said that the process was one that he needed to slow down and be thorough with, but this morning he was sure about making up his mind.

"I think that it was something that I wanted to approach very gradually," Stanton said. "I just wanted to make an informed decision and really evaluate all of my options.

"I woke up this morning and told my parents that I was ready to commit to Nebraska and they were really happy about it. I am happy about my decision and the fact that I will get the distraction of recruiting out of the way before my season."

Stanton was at Nebraska early in the month of June for camp and then returned just a couple of weeks later to take a closer look at the school, talk to some of the players and just see the campus as a whole. It was the second visit to Lincoln which really set up his decision to become a Cornhusker.

"I really chose Nebraska because of the feel of the school. I loved how if was just around the campus when I was there on my second visit. I really liked having a chance to hang out with the players then too."

Watch Stanton's film and you will see an offense that is comparable to Nebraska. There are lots of slants and seams downfield with a mobile quarterback who can tuck it and run it when the play breaks down and is very effective on the designed quarterback run plays. It's something that Stanton noticed as well.

"There is definitely a natural fit there when it comes to the offense Nebraska wants to run. I saw some similarities between the Nebraska offense and the offense that I run at Catholic. I can see it. It's exciting to know that I will already have a feel for the offense coming in."

Stanton said that Santa Margarita (Calif.) Catholic is back out on the field trying to repeat as CIF and state champions. As a junior the 6-foot-2 and 220-pound Stanton threw for 2,439 yards, 13 touchdowns and nine interceptions.
