Strong staying busy

There are a few spots in the 2013 class for Nebraska where it makes complete sense for the Husker staff to bring in junior college help. One of those spots in undoubtedly wide receiver where Nebraska is still looking for that consistent weapon at the "X" spot since Maurice Purify left town. Could this JC WR follow in Purify's foot steps to Lincoln?

There isn't much of a summer anymore and even less for players like Jaelen Strong who is trying to do class and workouts. Strong says that staying busy isn't much of a problem.

"We are doing summer work outs," Strong said. "We lift in the morning and then practice on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday with the coaches. I am also taking classes right now."

Strong says that he hasn't had a lot of time or opportunity to get out of town and check out any four-year schools, but that will change this weekend. In fact, this will be a return visit to Tempe as the Sun Devils will host a good crop of recruits this weekend.

"I haven't taken any trips this summer, but I am going to Arizona State this weekend. I went there last year on an unofficial visit too."

There are a lot of offers out on the table for Strong, but he says that there are five schools that among all of his offers are standing out right now. "I would say my top schools are Arizona State, Nebraska, Miami, Ole Miss and Texas Tech. All of those schools have offered."

Getting a chance to play early is big for Strong. He says that he is also wants to pick a school where he is comfortable and also has his major.

"I want to be comfortable where I go and I want to get on the field. I plan on studying graphic design too so it's important that they have my major."

Strong is a big, 6-foot-4 and 200-pounds, but you don't lose any speed either with Strong who says he runs a 4.46/40. Strong also likes to use his size on the edge to block.

"I am fast and I have good jumping ability. I can go up and get the ball at the highest point. I also like to block."

The interesting part about Strong might be his eligibility. Last year at Woodland Hills (Calif.) Pierce College he actually gray shirted and he still has a redshirt year after being a non-qualifier out of Philadelphia (Pa.) West Philadelphia Catholic.

"I gray shirted last year and will actually have four years to play three. I won't be able to transfer until June though."

Nebraska is a team that Strong is very interested in mostly because of the relationship that he has developed with the wide receivers coach. Strong knows about the sell out streak at Nebraska and also wants to see their new facilities.

"I want to take an official visit to Nebraska this fall. They sell out every weekend and they love their football. Coach Rich Fisher told me about the new facilities and I want to check them out."
