BRR Examines: 2013 RBs

Big Red Report takes a current look at the 2013 running back board for Nebraska. Even though this could be a class of 25 players the Nebraska staff will likely take only one running back commitment.

Terrell Newby is a name that Nebraska fans have known for a while and he makes sense for Nebraska. A year ago, the Nebraska staff went out and got a player in Imani Cross that didn't look like anyone else at the running back position. The same can be said about Newby who is a little smaller and a little quicker than anyone on the team currently. Newby visited Lincoln for Big Red Weekend and it's likely down to Nebraska, Oregon, Cal and possibly Washington.

Beyond Newby, there isn't another running back's name that just comes to mind for Nebraska fans, but lets consider David Williams for a moment. Williams has been considering Nebraska for a while and a team that he had been favoring in Penn State might be headed for self-imposed, NCAA and possibly Big Ten sanctions. Just a week and a half ago Williams reported a top ten of Tennessee, South Carolina, Penn State, Wisconsin, Ohio State, Nebraska, California, Miami, Virginia and Pittsburgh. Williams took part in The Opening recently and as a junior Williams ran for 1,500 yards and 16 touchdowns on 230 carries.

Williams seems like a bit of a stretch, but so does Cornelius Elder too for Nebraska. Elder though looks more like Newby than Williamss does and that makes a little more sense. Elder's junior season stats are ridiculous. Elder ran for over 2,000 yards on just over 200 carries and scored 22 touchdowns. He also finished with five interceptions at safety. Nebraska as well as Tennessee, Ohio State, Mississippi State, Ole Miss, Georgia Tech, Vanderbilt and others have all offered Elder. Elder could be a DI prospect on both sides of the football while he has already picked up some DI offers for basketball as well.

Lee will round out the list of prospects that Big Red Report is watching right now and one of the reasons Lee gets onto the list is because of a late offer by Nebraska and at least the intention by Lee to visit Nebraska for Big Red Weekend. Lee didn't make it, but for just about each recruit that did make it in that weekend there was another that couldn't for one reason or another. Lee is a complete back that is a home run threat running the football and also catches the ball well out of the backfield. Nebraska has offered Lee as well as schools like UCLA, Washington, Washington State, Oregon, Oregon State, Arizona and Arizona State among others.
