Florida LB has leader in mind

Evan Gentry is a standout linebacker prospect from North Florida Christian High in Tallahassee and Scout caught up with him to discuss the latest.

Evan Gentry is still looking for his first Division 1 scholarship offer. He talked about the summer he's had so far in search of it.

"I've been to App State, Georgia Southern, Charleston Southern, Samford, NIU, Vandy, East Carolina, and Elon," Gentry said.

Gentry, 6-foot-3 and 230 pounds, talked about the status of a possible offer from each of those schools.

"Elon is saying mid-season, same as Georgia Southern," he said. "Charleston Southern won't offer till December, and Samford said mid season."

One school has jumped out ahead of the rest right now and he talked about that.

"App State is my favorite," he said. "They said they will most likely offer mid season and I love the city of Boone," he said. "Because Boone is set in the Appalachia mountains it makes the scenery so beautiful. The school is among the best I have seen. And the football facility was amazing there."

Gentry, who says location and academics are what he'll be looking for most when choosing a school, finished his junior season with 105 tackles, eight sacks, three caused fumbles, and two fumble recoveries. His team won the state championship.

As a Prospect: Gentry is an excellent high school football player from a tremendous prep program. He's like an old school player -- very tough, full of energy, and the type of player who would run through a brick wall. His motor never stops running and that helps him make a lot of plays. He gets off the ball pretty well and is very strong for his size. He has a tremendous work ethic and knows the game very well.
