Top RB to take visits

The start of college football recruiting is around the corner and news of official visits will begin to break. Players who are not committed will have to trim their lists and set their five visits. The other side of that coin is that some committed players will take official visits despite being committed to other schools like this running back.

Glassboro HS (N.J.) is about two weeks away from getting out on the field for their first official game. Head coach Mark Maccarone and his star running back, Corey Clement, took the field this past Wednesday though for a little scrimmage though.

"We have our first game on September 7th.  I think that we played O.K.  We held our own against the runners-up last year with a lot of our starters our because of a stomach flu," said Maccarone.

Coach Maccarone got a good glimpse at what some of the non-starters could do during the scrimmage. Clement didn't get a lot of reps as you might have imagined. There isn't a lot about Clement that the head coach doesn't already know.

"Corey got about six snaps on offense and maybe five snaps on defense.  He was a little dinged up earlier in the week so we wanted to limit it when it came to his reps.  We know what he can do already.  Only bad things can happen when it comes to a scrimmage and Corey."

Maccarone knows that he has one of the top runners in the nation. Clement is rated a four-star prospect and the No. 27 running back in the nation. Coach Maccarone says that there are a lot of things that makes Clement special.

"He's protypical.  He's the old I-Back who is a downhill runner and runs physical and hard between the tackles.  Corey is a real physical specimen when it comes to the running back position."

Clement committed to Pittsburgh back in June, but word has started to break about Clement taking some visits. Coach Maccarone verified that Clement will take some trips. There are two planned trips to schools besides Pitt at the moment.

"From what I understand Corey will take some visits, yeah.  It sounds like he has three official visits that he wants to take.  I spoke to him and he said that he will take trips to Wisconsin, Notre Dame and Pitt."

One school that has come up as a possible school that Clement would visit was Nebraska. Coach Maccarone could not verify that Clement was planning a trip to Nebraska, but he had spoken with Clement as early as this morning about recruiting. Still, even if Clement does take trips, his coach believes that it will take a lot to persuade Clement to go elsewhere.

"In talking to him this morning I don't know.  He's kind of set on those three schools in terms of where he wants to go.  Unless Wisconsin or Notre Dame really blow him away he will likely end up at Pitt."
