Important week for Banderas

There will be two constants when it comes to visitors for Nebraska this fall. One will be Christian LaCouture and the other will be Josh Banderas. Both Nebraska commitments and both Lincoln (Nebr.) Southwest team mates, the new item this past week for Nebraska was the walking boot that Banderas was wearing.

Josh Banderas was busy with football today. He's actually a midget football coach and they had their game this afternoon. For a while Banderas was lost in the moment, but at the end the reality of his bum "wheel" set in.

"I am actually in the grocery store right now riding around in a scooter," Banderas said. "I got rolled up on after a run and I couldn't play the last five or six minutes against Omaha (Nebr.) North and we ended up losing the game."

Banderas has no confidence issues when it comes to being seen in a scooter riding around in a grocery store. He's thinking about the bigger picture and trying to get back on the football field.

"The injury is actually looking good. It's not a high ankle sprain or a low one. It's just kind of in the middle. I have good strength and I am doing a lot of things to get ready in my treatments. I should be back on the field jogging on Tuesday."

Time is of the essence for both Southwest and Banderas this week. Typically they both might have until Friday night for Banderas to get ready for a game, but this week Southwest has a game on Thursday. And it's less about when and more about who.

"We play against Southeast on Thursday night. So it's a big game for us. We have lost our last two and as a team we are definitely figuring out that games are won Monday through Thursday. We need to practice hard and do well in our conditioning so we can finish hard in our games."
