Nebraska cruises to 3-0 victory

Nebraska cruised to a 3-0 victory on Wednesday night over No. 24 Michigan State.

LINCOLN, Neb - A senior led team is always a benefit to any program. This was no different as Nebraska outside-hitter Hannah Werth rebounded after a slow last week, with a .467 hitting percentage on Wednesday night, to beat No. 24 Michigan State 3-0.

"Hannah made three huge plays at the end of that game, she had a big dig a big stuff and a kill." head coach John Cook said. "We needed to make big plays, and we did."

After a back and forth start to the first, the Huskers took control going on a 13-5 run to end the first set. Meghan Haggerty came off the bench and recorded two straight kills and added a third later in the set. Mancuso was four-of -seven on kills registering a .571 attack percentage. Amy Dentlinger of Michigan State tried to keep the Spartans in the match, but was not enough as the Huskers would go on to win 25-17.

It was the same story for No. 6 Nebraska in the second set. Michigan State actually jumped out to a 2-0 lead, but Morgan Broekhuis was just too much for the Spartans. Broekhuis was 7-of-13 for a .462 hitting percentage. Also coming up big again was the freshman Meghan Haggerty. Haggerty was six-for-eight recording a .625 hitting percentage. As a team the Huskers had five total team blocks to Michigan State's one. Nebraska's defense was stellar in the second set allowing Michigan State to just a .056 attack percentage. The Huskers took the set 25-16.

The third set was a tight one through out, as it seemed that the air had been let out of the Coliseum. John Cook's squad seemed just one step behind until an Allison McNeal kill ignited the crowd. It was down to the wire for the Huskers and Spartans, going back and forth until an error at the net for Michigan State sealed the deal giving the Huskers the 25-22 third set win and 3-0 match victory.

Nebraska takes on the Michigan Wolverines Sunday afternoon in the Coliseum at 2pm.
