SMU lands four-star

A talented wing from Chicago is headed down to the state of Texas for his college ball.

Larry Brown and his staff have been involved with several high caliber players in the 2013 class and they just closed on one of the better available wings with the commitment of Sterling Brown. The Maywood (Ill) Proviso East product visited over the weekend and made his decision on Monday.

According to Brown's father Chris, after the visit Sterling simply decided that SMU was the perfect place.

"Everything was a fit for him," said Chris Brown. "From the coaching staff, to Larry Brown, the beautiful campus, the atmosphere, and the academics with his major, SMU was just the fit for him. He just felt it he fit in and it was right for him."

Brown continued, "SMU was the perfect fit for him. He had a few other visits scheduled, but we called and let them know this was the right place for him."

Along with assistant coach Jerrance Howard who was known in his time at Illinois for his ability to recruit Chicago, Larry Brown was a big reason for the decision. With his NBA pedigree, Chris Brown sees it as a great opportunity for his son.

"From the way I look at it, he is the only person to win an NCAA Championship and an NBA Championship and he has great respect in the basketball world and I think he will bring the program back," said Brown.

He continued, "Coach Brown is also a good guy who is real down to earth. He told Sterling to go anywhere he wanted to go, but that he needed to go to the best place for him."

Currently Brown is rated as a four-star prospect and the No. 76 player overall. He is the first commitment in the 2013 class and will join some very talented transfers such as Markus Kennedy and Nic Moore who will be eligible beginning next season.
