JUCO DE to visit Nebraska

Nebraska will lost three of their top defensive ends to graduation after this season. That's why it's not a huge surprise that Nebraska is looking for junior college help off of the edge. This junior college defensive end will be in Lincoln this weekend.

You may not hear this very often, but an injury may have been the best thing to happen to Randy Gregory. The 6-foot-6 and 230-pound defensive end from Yuma (Ariz.) Arizona Western was lost for the season right after it started.

"I am not playing this year," Gregory said. "I played the first week and in a practice the week after my ankle got caught in a pile. I broke my fibula. I opted not to have surgery and the boot is off now. I will be doing rehab starting this week.

"The team is doing good though. We are 6-0 and just won last week against Mesa. Like I said it's been a good year, we play Glendale this week, and we are rated either second or third in one poll and third or fourth in the other. We should play in the national bowl game."

The injury has helped propel Gregory to the top of the a lot of teams boards. Gregory received a medical red shirt for this season and he should be able to get it back. So instead of being a three for two he's not a four for three.

"I am still committed to Purdue, but my recruiting has blown up because of my eligibility. I just got four offers last week. I got offers from Kentucky, UCLA, West Virginia and Nebraska. I am from Indiana originally so the Big Ten is in my blood. My dad played for Northwestern. I am a Midwest kid."

Although Gregory has only had the offer from Nebraska for just a week he is planning on being in Lincoln this weekend for a big, Big Ten game. Gregory said that his father is planning on meeting him in Lincoln for the visit.

"I really want to check out the atmosphere in Lincoln. This is probably the first time for me at a big time game. I think that they get about 90,000 fans for all of their home games. Purdue gets around 50,000 and my visit to Iowa State was around 60,000."

Nebraska is getting one of Gregory's four remaining visits which are going fast. He would like to get back to Purdue for another official visit, since he is still committed and signed with Purdue but filed to qualify out of high school, but the remaining visits may not go as far as he wants.

"My top schools right now are Oklahoma, Purdue, Iowa State, Missouri and Nebraska. I might go to West Virginia on December 8th, but that is the weekend that Missouri wants me to visit too. I will also go to Purdue for the Indiana game since that is a pretty big rivalry."
