Martinez enjoys Lincoln

One of the more intriguing prospects at Nebraska over the weekend was California product Drake Martinez.

The name should be very familiar for Nebraska fans. Drake Martinez, the younger brother of Nebraska's starting quarterback Taylor Martinez, was in Lincoln this weekend for an official visit and the Laguna Beach (Calif.) head coach spoke to Drake about his official visit.

"He had a good time," Laguna Head Coach Mike Churchill said. "I know that he was able to meet up with some of the other recruits like the Nebraska quarterback commitment from Santa Margarita (Calif.). I know that those two really hit it off on the visit. His brother, Taylor, was his host for the weekend."

Watch Martinez's film and you will see great speed. Coach Churchill says that it is legit. Martinez has what Coach Churchill refers to as midnight speed. Even in the dead of night in a deep sleep you can wake up Drake and he can go out and run a 4.4 or 4.5. Nebraska sees a possible fit on either side of the ball for the younger Martinez.

"I know that it was discussed. Sounds like Nebraska likes him as safety and as a wide receiver. He would probably start out at wide receiver because it sounds like there are some guys in the class already at safety. I can tell you this, he has very good hands. He catches everything."

Coach Churchill said he was unaware of any more official visits that Martinez might be setting up right now. Laguna Beach is 8-0-1 and is on a seven game winning streak. They play Costa Mesa at Orange Coast College this Thursday night at 7:00PM.
