UW: Report Card

Who made the grade and who came up short as the Nittany Lions toppled Wisconsin? We let you know right here.

Our report card from Penn State's OT win over Wisconsin.

OVERALL: This was not an exceptionally well-played game by the Nittany Lions. But they produced in the clutch against a legit opponent.
Grade: A-

OFFENSE: The passing game was not as effective as usual but PSU adjusted by pounding the Badgers with body blows from the running game. It paid off, as the UW defense was gassed in the second half.
Grade: A-

DEFENSE: Ted Roof's crew adjusted after UW's early success and limited the Badgers to a single touchdown in the game's final 46-plus minutes. Impressive stuff.
Grade: A-

SPECIAL TEAMS: Sam Ficken was great. Alex Butterworth seemed to literally be on a roll. But kickoff coverage was a real problem.
Grade: B-

COACHING: Bill O'Brien is getting the hang of this. The halftime adjustments he and the staff made were just too much for Bret Bielema and company.
Grade: A

INTANGIBLES: The greatest senior class in Penn State history worked its Senior Day mojo on UW.
Grade: A+

OTHER GUY: There was no quit in Bucky. Nice win for Penn State, to be sure. But Wisconsin is a program to be respected.
Grade: B-

OFFICIALS: Dave Witvoet was the crew chief. Someone everyone escaped without a major controversy.
Grade: C

CROWD: This is tough. The people who were there (and stayed in the second half) get an A+++. But seeing so many cars heading out of the parking lot at halftime leads to demerits (admittedly from someone watching in the warmth of the press box).
Grade: B
