One of the top uncommitted players left in the state of Missouri, along with the region, made his official visit to check out the University of Missouri this past weekend.
Kansas City (MO) Center Defensive Tackle Maliek Collins, 6'2" 275 4.8 forty, first caught the attention of the Tiger coaches this past summer at their one day camp in Kansas City with his size, quickness and athleticism.
The explosive defensive lineman filled ShowMeMizzou.com in about his official visit.
It was good fun and I really got the feel of being on campus and what it would be like to go to school and player there,"said Collins."Lucas Vincent was my host, the food was terrific, and I had a great time with the players and other recruits visiting. I also got to learn a lot about the school and football program. I didn't know that so many defensive linemen came from Mizzou. Specifically from working with Coach Kul."
I asked Maliek about his time spent with the other recruits. He indicated that he enjoyed them and established friendships with a few.
"I got to know Harneet Gill really well and A.J. Logan too. We went bowling and had a lot of fun. They called me "commit" as a nickname and kept calling me that," said Collins with a laugh about the other recruits attempt to influence him to make a verbal commitment to the Tigers.
I asked Maliek how he would rate his visit and if he can see himself going to Mizzou and possibly playing early.
"Yes, I can see myself there at Missouri. It was a 10 for sure," said Collins about his visit." The coaches didn't really say anything, but I think I can come in and work hard and compete for a spot."
Collins has another official visit planned for Nebraska this coming weekend. After that Maliek has an idea of when he would like to make a decision.
"If not before Christmas then after New Years," said Collins.
