Collins talks about his commitment

The Nebraska staff found and offered Maliek Collins in mid-November. It was clear that the Nebraska offer was one that Collins was impressed with. Collins finally got a chance to visit Lincoln this weekend and decided that Nebraska was where he wanted to be.

Nebraska hosted just one official visitor this weekend, Maliek Collins, and got a verbal commitment from him before going home. Collins is a 6-foot-2 and 285-pound defensive tackle from Kansas City (Mo.) Center High School

"I just liked the coaches a lot," Collins said. "They were all around me the whole weekend. They made me feel welcome and as part of the team how much they were around me."

The coaching staff was the first thing that Collins talked about when it came to why he chose Nebraska. Collins said that he was also very impressed with how nice the Nebraska facilities were and how close everything was together.

"I really liked the facilities at Nebraska. Everything is close by and it's all right there. It was a great environment to be in and I was just really comfortable there all weekend."

"The Nebraska academic facilities are right there next to the training table or where you go eat," Collins said. "You have to walk by there everyday. There is no excuse to not be able to go in there and do your work."

Collins is a player that has a wrestling background so he will understand leverage. With his size you might pencil him to the interior, but Nebraska likes Collins outside too because he is athletic for his size.

"I talked to the coaches about that and they said that they like me as either a one, three or a five technique. I am actually fine playing all three of those spots."
