Three-star Cypress Bay (Fla.) High School defensive back Boaz Joseph made his long-anticipated official visit to Kentucky this weekend and had some company for the trip to Lexington.
"I came up with my teammate, Alex Montgomery," Joseph said of his friend, a talented wide receiver prospect who has been pursued by UK for several months as well, but appeared to cross the Wildcats off his list earlier this fall.
"We both liked it. I'd say there's a decent chance we could be playing together again on the college level."
Joseph said neither he nor Montgomery have committed to Kentucky, but noted that the visit helped strengthen the Cats' chances.
"This was a good step for me," he said. "I feel real comfortable with Kentucky right now."
Asked what some of the trips highlights were, Joseph said: "We got to see the city and some of the surrounding area. One of the most interesting things was taking a trip to a horse farm. I have never been around anything like that. That was very curious to me.
"We also got to spend a lot of time with the coaches and players, getting to know them better. Glenn Faulkner was my host. All the players made me feel welcome there. I met the new DBs coach (Derrick Ansley). One of my friends from home played at Tennessee and spoke well of him. He's got a good reputation for getting people better."
Joseph said he also liked getting to know new UK head coach Mark Stoops a little better.
"Coach Stoops is a cool guy with a lot of energy," he said. "It sounds like he's very excited to get their program started in the right direction."
Joseph (6-1, 190, 4.5) still has visits to Nebraska (Jan. 18) and Cincinnati (Jan. 25) before he makes his college choice. He says he won't name a favorite until he's had a chance to take all of his official visits. Purdue is also in the mix. He visited the Boilermakers this fall.
