Rose takes in junior day

North Star running back Austin Rose was one of the handful of local products to check out the Huskers' junior day on Saturday - skipping the Under Armour Elite 100 this weekend to do so.

A frequent visitor during the season, North Star high school (NE) 2014 running back Austin Rose made the short trip to UNL on Saturday to check out the Huskers' junior day.

"It was great, we sort of got to see the academic side of things. We then took a tour of the stadium, which I have obviously already seen," said the junior, who also got a chance to talk with multiple coaches. "I talked to Coach Pelini a little bit after the whole thing was done. He said to keep up the good work, that he was liking what he has seen out of me. Hopefully something good comes out of it.

"We also had some position meetings. Coach Brown is a really cool guy. He was showing me film and everything. It was a pretty good experience overall."

With schools like UCLA, Ohio, Missouri, Iowa State, Michigan, Oregon, Stanford, and Tennessee all inquiring about Rose, the junior's spring and summer could be a busy one.

He's already fresh off a visit to San Antonio in early January, where he participated in the Army All-American Combine.

"It went really well. They were timing and they said I ran a 4.6 in the forty and a 4.1 in the pro agility. I then jumped 32.5," said the 6-foot, 220-pound prospect. "It was a good experience I was one of the biggest backs there and testing better than a lot of the smaller guys."

After running for over 1,400 yards and 22 touchdowns in 2012, Rose is mainly working on his speed and strength this offseason. Nebraska didn't say whether they liked him as a halfback or fullback, but the 2014 prospect feels he could do both.

"It's how I look at myself. Before Mike Minter left our system, I was playing more the H back," said Rose. "But then I moved to running back full-time. I can do both."
