Simmons Adds TCU Offer

Mansfield (TX) Timberview safety Brandon Simmons picked up an offer from TCU on Monday.

TCU extended an offer to one of the nation's top players from the 2014 class on Monday when the Frogs offered Mansfield (TX) Timberview safety Brandon Simmons.

TCU head coach Gary Patterson visited Simmons's school on Monday and after the coach left, Simmons was informed by his father that the head coach himself extended the offer.

The nation's No. 4 rated safety has nearly 40 offers in the fold and has received four in the last few days from Oklahoma State, Nebraska, Missouri and lastly TCU. Simmons is glad he had a good option so close to home.

"He(Patterson) told my dad that they offered me," Simmong said. "It's a great option to have. When it comes down to wanting to stay home or not it's a great option; it's just thirty minutes from my house and my parents will be able to come to all of my games. It's definitely a great option to have."

Simmons has some familiarity with the Frogs program and says they're a big draw now that they play in a more competitive conference.

"They moved to the Big 12 and that's exciting and it's definitely a bigger factor in my decision right now being in a bigger conference. They're pretty well off in that conference," he said. "With them being in the Big 12, it's a pretty big factor."

Another factor besides location and conference prestige is the defensive scheme and playing time. Simmons quickly admits that playing time is a big factor he's considering and with the Frogs utilizing three safeties in their defense, he sees a good opportunity.

"It definitely plays a huge role because I want to come in and contribute to the team and a defense that plays three safeties would be a good defense for me to come in and play," he said.

For now, Simmons will get an up close look at the Frogs' program when he makes the short drive to Ft. Worth to attend a Frogs' junior day.

"They're having an elite (junior) day for about six or seven of us and I'll probably be going down to that," he said.

TCU may not be the only Big 12 program Simmons sees this weekend. He also has an invite to attend Baylor's junior day this weekend but also has to take the ACT so the visit is still undecided.

"I may go to Baylor on Saturday but I have the ACT that day so it just depends," Simmons said.

Simmons has already been selected to play in the 2014 U.S. Army All-American Bowl.
