Harris Snags Cal Offer

Grand Rapids (Mich.) Grand Rapids Christian two-sport standout talks about his most recent offer -- from the California Golden Bears.

Drake Harris was going to play both basketball and football in college. That's why, the Grand Rapids (Mich.) Grand Rapids Christian star committed back in June to Michigan State.

But recently, Harris decided that he wanted to focus on football -- which is a good thing, since he's rated as the No. 6 wide receiver in the country and a four-star prospect.

On Wednesday, Harris received his 10th scholarship offer to play football, this one coming from Rob Likens and California.

"The reason why I committed to Michigan State in the first place was because I was going to play basketball in college as well as football, but I just decided that I'm just going to play football, and that's why I've opened my recruiting back up," Harris told Cal Sports Digest on Wednesday afternoon, just moments after receiving his offer. "Cal's a great school, a great education, and those coaches came from Louisiana Tech, and they had one of the top offenses in the country. I think they were the top offense in the country last year, and they throw the ball a lot. That fits my play well."

Though he's not yet been to the campus, Harris holds the Bears in high esteem.

"From all that I've heard, it's a beautiful campus, and I'm looking forward to coming out there in the summer and visiting," Harris said. "I want to come out and take a look, and then go to USC also, and probably Oregon."

With no shortage of suitors, what stands out about Cal for Harris is the educational aspect.

"Education – on my list are Notre Dame and Vanderbilt – but Cal is one of the top educational programs in the country," Harris said. "Also, of course, the offense that they run fits me well, because I'm a receiver, and they throw the ball. I don't know too much about Cal right now, but I'm looking to look up some information about them and get to know them a little better."

Likens did not get to see Harris in person, but after a group tape viewing by the coaching staff last week, it was hard not to offer the 2014 standout.

"He watched my tapes and stuff, and he said that the staff loved me," Harris said.
