Hines earns MVP in the Midwest
After yesterday's MVP performance at the "Best of the Midwest" combine in Indianapolis, Ind., Charlotte Christian (N.C.) wide receiver Bo Hines didn't mind being the only kid there from the South. "I felt like I did pretty well against talented competition from the Midwest," Hines said. "I ran the 40-yard dash in 4.41 seconds, which was one of the fastest times. It was good for me [to be named wide receiver MVP] because I've only played wide receiver for eight games. I played running back and quarterback for that." Last week, Hines visited North Carolina State and came away impressed with the new environment stirring in Raleigh. Todd Hines, Bo's father and co-offensive coordinator for Charlotte Christian, accompanied his son on the trip to visit the Pack. "We had a chance to meet the new coaches," Todd Hines said. "He really like Coach [Eddie] Faulkner and what they're doing up there. They are putting a footprint in North Carolina. They really relate to kids. We have to get our [Charlotte Christian] kids up there because it's going to be a special place." So far, the 6-foot-1, 190- pound wide receiver touts offers from Ball State, Massachusetts and Charlotte. However, he's also receiving heavy interest from some local ACC schools. "I'm hearing from a lot from Wake Forest, Duke, and N.C. State," Hines said. "I feel like those schools will offer. I think N.C. State is the closest to offering." Hines says a Wolfpack offer would be gladly welcomed. "I really like their coaches," he said. "They are a hardcore group, and I think they are going to win there. I talked to Coach [Dave] Doeren last week when I visited. He told me he likes my style of play and that the coaches will meet this week and determine if they are going to offer me. State sees me as a slot receiver." Does the speedy wideout have a leader? "I like Nebraska a little bit right now," Hines said. "I like the Midwest. I am talking to Coach [Bo] Pelini this Friday, and I think it could be an offer." Hines rounds out his trip to the Midwest with visits to Ball State and Massachusetts. Hines says he'll visit Nebraska, Duke and Wake Forest this spring.
