"I got a Kansas State offer," Phillips said. "It takes a huge load off. I am honored that they thought enough of me to offer. I was at their junior day today and there were a bunch of kids there."
Phillips was impressed with what Kansas State had to show him while he was there on his junior day. The way that Kansas State offered him was a memorable one too.
"I had just finished up with the tour and we were getting ready to eat. I was told that one of the coordinators was going to want to speak with me which was interesting since I hadn't even spoken with my position coach yet.
"We finished up eating and one of the recruiting coaches came over and walked us up to these huge doors. They opened up and we were walking into Coach Bill Snyder's office and it overlooked the stadium.
"We had a great talk. He told me about Kansas State and then he just asked me one question to tell him about myself. After I did he told me that he liked how I handled the situation, what I stood for and he knew that I was a good fit for him program. That's when he told me I had an offer."
After the visit and the offer the Wildcats now site atop Phillips' list. They have shown the desire to get Phillips into their program and he sees it. Phillips says that they might have wanted him to commit today, but he wants to make another visit there and see a couple of other things.
"They are my No. 1. I told them that. They are the only BCS school to make that leap to this point. It seemed like they might have been ready for me to commit right there, but I told them I wanted to see the school, the dorms and talk to my high school coach.
"My mother is extremely happy and she was tearing up when they offered. I am planning on getting back down to Kansas State for a spring practice so I can see that and talk to some of the players too."
