The University of Missouri looks like it will be a regular stop for football prospects from Lee's Summit (MO) West this spring.
On Thursday, cornerback Logan Cheadle and 2015 running back Ryan Williams were at the Tigers second practice session of spring football 2013. Then on Friday, 2014 OG Kevin Pendleton stopped by practice to observe things on an unofficial visit.
Pendleton was offered by the Tigers last month and attended the Tigers Junior Day event on March 2nd. He spoke to ShowMeMizzou.com about his most recent trip to Columbia.
"I loved it! I really loved everything about it,"said Pendleton. ‘Everything was great and was even better then I expected to be. It was a real eye opener for me. I know I said I would wait and make a decision later, and I still plan on checking out more schools, but I think I may make a decision sooner then I initially thought."
Seeing practice and campus in person was exciting for Pendleton, and gave him a good read on both the football program and the school.
"Seeing practice up close was great. I got to sit in on the position meeting and see how Coach Walker coaches and interacts with his players. All the coaches were great and showed me a lot of love. Missouri sees me as a guard in college and wants me to move inside. They think I can be the next Evan Boehm. The practice was very intense when I went to watch it. The players practiced very hard and it was very competitive. They went all out on every play. I had just been to Nebraska on an unofficial visit and Missouri's practice was much more intense and business like," said Pendleton.
Kevin is also pleased with what Missouri has to offer academically.
"I plan on majoring in business and I went to check out the business school when I got up there and talked to some of the academic people there. The business school is very good and offers exactly what I am looking for. I also liked all the activity going on around campus. We got up there around 10'o clock to look around."
Our conversation turned to some of Pendleton's teammates who have been offered by the Tigers and them all possibly playing together in the future.
"I know that Logan (Cheadle) and Ryan (Williams) were here yesterday. Me and Logan, Ryan and Monte Harrison, who also has a Mizzou offer, talk about going to the same college together, and how we'd like to play the next 5-6 years of football together, and go to a school and win some championships there. I know they all like Missouri too. We'll see what happens."
While on his unofficial visit, Kevin met another prospect visiting and the conversation between them turned to possibly playing together at Missouri.
" Another offensive lineman, Chase Gianacakos, was here on a visit and watching practice. We hit it off pretty well. Chase is a really good guy and he seemed to love things as much as I did. We talked about hopefully playing together in college. He said that he has a bunch of offers, but that his visit moved the Tigers up to his top three schools. I thought that says a lot about Missouri and the coaches."
While an offer from Nebraska may be close in Pendleton's future. It appears that the relationship he has developed with the Missouri coaches and his feelings towards the school and football program may have the Tigers as the team to beat.
"The Missouri coaches love me. They are a great bunch of guys and have honored me with an offer and in how they have treated and feel about me. They have been honest and have not pressured me, but they have a lot of confidence in me as a player and a leader. They said that if I commit to them that they think that they can see me being the type of person and player who could help lead other top prospects to come to Mizzou. That means a lot. I will be definitely be going back up this spring for practice, and definitely for the spring game," said Pendleton.
