Memphis NFTC: All-Camp Defense

Who were the top defenders at each position Sunday at the Nike Football Training Camp in Memphis, Tenn.? Scout names their All-Defensive team here...

Defensive Line

Garrald McDowell | Covington (La.)
He can mix it up and move around on the defensive front on the next level. He has great strength and he fires off the ball well. He was Scout's top defensive performer Sunday.

Davon Godchaux | Plaquermine (La.)
A jumbo-athlete is what Godchaux is. He is raw, but that is not a bad thing. Right now he relies on pure strength and quickness, but he is going to get a lot better.

Breeland Speaks | Callaway (Miss.)
Speaks has only three offers now, but that number should change very soon. He is very versatile and could move around the defensive fronts due to his size, power, and burst off the ball.

Derek Barnett | Brentwood Academy (Tenn.)
When talking versatile prospects, Barnett has to be included. He is being recruited for offense and defense, but he showed Sunday he is pretty good on the defensive line. Out of the talented DLs Sunday, he proved to be the best technician. He had moves off the ball and he surprised some with his quickness.

Petera Wilson | White Station (Tenn.)
Has the looks of a college linebacker. He is 6-foot-2, plus, close to 230 pounds, and he wears a size 16 shoe. He is still best when closer to the line, but he has improved in space, and he got his hands on a few balls in coverage Sunday.

Andre Willard | Conway (Ark.)
A strong linebacker who is best when moving north-south. He needs to improve in pass protection and his ability to turn and run, but he was solid in the drills, and he is a new name to keep an eye on as we get into the spring evaluation period.

Justice Austin | North Little Rock (Ark.)
There were a handful of Arkansas prospects that caught Scout's attention and Austin is one of them. He was one of the more athletic backers in Memphis and he showed he could cover during the 7on7 session. He was one of the linebackers called up by the coaches in the final LB vs. RB battles too.

Defensive Back

C.J. Hampton | Meredian (Miss.)
We have already talked about Hampton a good bit in other features after his performance Sunday and he is back again. He just had a very good day. He showed no real flaws and showed his natural athleticism. He is committed to Ole Miss.

Mattrell McGraw | John Curtis Christian (La.)
Not many have been hotter on the recruiting trail than McGraw. He has been picking up new offers left and right and he showed why Sunday. He showed great instincts at safety and he was solid in coverage.

Tony Becton | White Station (Tenn.)
Not a prospect talked too much about yet, but Becton had a solid day at corner Sunday. He really moved well and was fluid when transitioning into coverage. He was able to turn and run with some of the top wideouts there.

Emmanuel Smith | Oakland (Tenn.)
What jumps out about Smith when you see him working with the defensive backs is his size. He is tall (6-2) and he has long arms. He looks like he could grow into an athletic outside linebacker, but he can cover a lot of ground at safety too. He showed loose his for a long athlete Sunday and should stay at safety. He is committed to Vanderbilt.
