11 offers for Brown

Tampa (Flor.) Alonso offensive lineman Gary Brown is a player emerging on the national, recruiting radar. the 6-foot-3.5 and 275-pound offensive lineman is up to 11 offers already.

Tampa (Flor.) Alonso has a couple of weeks left of their spring practices and had a scrimmage today. Gary Brown, a 6-foot-3.5 and 275-pound lineman for Alonso says that the team is really coming together.

"Things are good," Brown said. "We just got done with a scrimmage today. We have two more weeks of spring practices left.

"We are coming together well as a team. I want to say that we have five offensive linemen returning and we have Ish Witter at running back. Biggest question is who will play quarterback?"

While Alonso looks for an offensive lineman they know how who will be playing left guard. Brown was a returning starter on the line at left tackle. But, after all of the attention to make him a guard in college he will move inside for his senior year.

"When I went out as a sophomore I was set to play right tackle and was moved to left tackle. Since I have been picking up offers as an offensive guard prospect I am being moved to left guard.

"Moving from tackle to guard, as a tackle you pick up a guy and you just pancake him. As a guard you have to pull, stay close tot he line of scrimmage and smash someone. I like pulling though."

Brown has a double-digit offer total already with his latest offer being a big one from a Big Ten program. "I am up to 11 offers. I have offers from South Florida, Marshall, Ohio, Kentucky, Georgia Tech, Cincinnati, Iowa State, Indiana, FIU, Tulane and on Thursday I picking up an offer from Nebraska."

Brown says that he will make some trips this summer after seeing a couple of schools this spring. He wants to get out and see some schools to cut down his list to help him choose which teams he will officially visit.

"I am planning on traveling in the summer to see some schools," Brown said. "I want to cut down to a final five schools. I have seen Georgia Tech for their junior day. Kentucky has been staying touch with me a lot and I would like to visit.

Iowa State sends me a lot of information over Facebook. USF was the first team to offer and I went to their junior day. I don't know where I will take trips to for sure this summer."

Nebraska was the last team to offer Brown, but that hasn't hurt their chances at all. Brown says that the Nebraska offer is a 'big one' and likes that the recruiting coach has had to tell him about the Nebraska program.

"I am interested in taking a trip to see Nebraska. Their coach wanted to offer me the other day and they have to talk it over with their head coach first. He couldn't reach me, but he called my coach anyway and told me to call him. He offered me.

"Coach Barney Cotton is the coach that is recruiting me. He's the offensive line coach for the Huskers. He's a really cool person to talk to. I spoke very highly of the Nebraska program and the type of players that he has and that he likes to recruit."
