Sherfield Ready to Camp

Danville (Ill.) class of 2014 safety Trent Sherfield has four offers and may earn more over the next month. He talks about where he's headed and his recent Illinois offer here.

A key part of Core 6 White's 7 on 7 success, Danville High's Trent Sherfield has been showing his athleticism and cover skills throughout the offseason, a package of abilities that has earned him four offers.

His list now stands at Northern Illinois, Indiana, Illinois State, and most recently, Illinois, whose proximity and local connection stands out to the 6'1, 185-pound junior.

"It's really a blessing," he said of the Illini offer. "It's 30-minutes down the road, if I forget something, I can come back and get it. Coach Colby, he's a Danville native and played at Danville, so it's a real good connection."

A high school quarterback, Sherfield projects to the secondary in college, saying, "I'm really guessing as a corner or probably as a safety, but I can't tell between the two right now. Vandy says safety. I'm really talking to Purdue, they want me to play safety, so I really don't know right now."

Those are two of schools he plans to camp at this summer.

"I'm going to Purdue, Vanderbilt, Cincinnati, Louisville and a couple other places. I have to sit down and talk to my mom about camps."

As for a commitment, Sherfield says it will likely be a little while before that happens.

"I'll decide probably after the football season," he said, adding that he would like to take his official visits.
