Earlier this week, he headed to Nebraska to camp with the Huskers after visiting last season during a game-day. His workout didn't last long. When running a forty in the first ten minutes of the camp, he pulled his hammy and had to sit the the rest of the two days out.
Schmidt headed home disappointed, but knew there would be an opportunity to impress Nebraska down the road again.
On Saturday morning, Schmidt was seen in Lincoln again, somewhat unexpectedly by Big Red Report.
"The coaches asked me to come down," said the South Dakota product, who joined other talented 2015 prospects in attendance for Big Red Weekend.
"They didn't' offer me."
Sounds like Nebraska wants to see a few games of his junior season before putting a scholarship on the table.
"I'm going to possibly hit the Under Armour combine in July and possibly Colorado State, I don't have it all figured out yet," said the 2015 prospect. "I went down to the Nike camp last weekend and got to take a lot of reps against Deshawn Hand, the nation's No. 1 defensive end. It was really nice to face elite competition. I know you meant no hit on South Dakota football, but we have a lot of talent up here. It's just sort of condensed in one area. But it's important for me to get out."
How did he do against Hand?
"The first time I was a little worried and he got a great inside move on me, but the second time I held my own," said Schmidt.
