Hometown: Galveston, Texas
Previous College: Texas Tech
Strengths: Pettaway is a versatile small forward with the ability to also play the shooting guard position. Something he adds to the Huskers they haven't seen in awhile is the ability to create his own shot. Whether it is off the curl, or creating something of the dribble, Pettaway gets to the basket. In addition, the redshirt-sophomore has a terrific jump shot which makes him allows him to play the shooting guard position in certain situations. Pettaway also possess a defensive intensity that is very rare amongst big time scorers. The ability to have a two-way player like this is sure to give the Huskers an edge in every game with his match ups.
Weaknesses: The biggest weakness Pettaway has is lack of game experience. Playing time was limited while at Texas Tech, and he was forced to sit out his first year at Nebraska because of transfer rules. However, he should be able to quickly acclimate back into the flow of things during the non-conference schedule.
2011-12 Look Back: As a true freshman at Texas Tech, Pettaway in played 27 games, starting 11. He averaged 3.3 ppg. and 2.1 rpg. He scored a career high 13 points against DePaul in just 15 minutes of action.
2013-14 Outlook: Expect Pettaway to start at the three, but also play the two in certain situations. He could also see some time at the point guard position, similar to the way Nebraska used Dylan Talley last season.
Tim Miles on Petteway: "We are thrilled to add Terran to our program. He can be a very dynamic player for us. Terran is a slashing wing player who is very athletic for his size and very good in transition. He has been well coached throughout his career and his parents are great people. I think he will be a great addition for our program."
