Hoops Profile: Walter Pitchford

Walter Pitchford might not play his true position this year, but the Florida transfer will be asked to contribute in a big time way for the Huskers.

Walter Pitchford

Height: 6-foot-10

Weight: 229 pounds

Year: Sophomore

Hometown: Grand Rapids, MI

Previous College: Florida

Out of High School Offers: Florida, Indiana, Minnesota, Memphis, Iowa, Washington

Strengths: Pitchford might be one of the most athletic players the Huskers have brought into the program in a long time. The best way to characterize Pitchford would be a stretch-four. However, because of the lack of size in the Nebraska front-court, Pitchford will most likely be the starting center. The ability to play small forward, power forward, or center will allow Coach Miles to play with many different line up combinations. A player that Pitchford's game would most compare to is Kevin Durant, of the Oklahoma City Thunder. Pitchford loves to step out behind the three-point line and can also create off the dribble. We are not saying he's as talented as Durant, not even close, but the style of his game compares to what Durant does so well.

Weaknesses: With a small front-court, Pitchford will be expected to step in right away and play the center position. To be successful he will have to develop a post game and take advantage of his size. His biggest weakness will be doing things that are unnatural for his style, but should be able to make up for it with his size and athletic ability.

2011-12 Look Back: Pitchford played in 11 games while at Florida, appearing for just 22 minutes. He scored six points and grabbed four rebounds during his time with the Gators.

2013-14 Outlook: Pitchford is expected to start at the five next season, but could see time at the four and even the three in certain situations. Despite what could be many position changes, Pitchford will be looked at as one of, if not the main scorer for the Huskers.
