Hoops Profile: Leslee Smith

The junior college product could be asked to contribute big minutes inside.

Leslee Smith

Height: 6-foot-8

Weight: 250 pounds

Year: Junior

Hometown: Liberal, Kansas

Previous College: Seward Community College and Southern Methodist University

Out of High School Offers: SMU, Colorado St, USC and Western Kentucky

Strengths: Smith fills the one need that the Huskers needed most this season, size in the paint. Standing at 6-foot-8 and 250 pounds, the junior college transfer will provide an athletic inside presence that the Huskers have been searching for. While his statistics weren't dazzling last year, Smith really hasn't had the opportunity to adjust to a new system. However, his body is Big Ten ready and he won't be expected to score while he is in with the firepower the Huskers offense is expected to posses next year. Smith will take up space in the paint on the defense of end and stop opposing offenses from getting to the basket; something that the defense struggled with last season.

Weaknesses: For such a bid body, Smith doesn't offer a ton on the offensive side of the ball. If he can develop a decent post game, he will add depth to an already nice looking second string. Acclimating to a new team is another thing that Smith will have to adjust too; this is his third team in three years.

2012-13 Look Back: Playing at Seward Community College last season, Smith averaged 8.3 ppg. and 6.6 rpg. However, against the top ranked junior college Hutchinson, he scored 16 points, collected 10 rebounds and recorded three blocks for possibly his best game of the year.

2013-14 Outlook: Smith is one of the harder players to project on Tim Miles's squad this year. I would expect Smith to come off of the bench to start the year, but also play significant minutes. If he can acclimate to the Huskers style of play and Big Ten basketball, Smith could crack the Huskers starting rotation.
