A member of New Zealand's national basketball squad in 2012, at 18-years old Webster hits Nebraska's campus with plenty of expectations - both from fans and the coaching staff. Webster is likely to be asked to learn both the point guard and shooting guard position.
"They're expecting me to take the reins," Webster told Stuff.co.nz, when asked about the point guard spot. I'd like to see myself become a point guard...But wherever the team needs me to be, I'll be."
For the last year, Webster has played for the Waikato Pistons, a professional team in the New Zealand Professional League.
Playing point guard out his team's necessity, he averaged 18.5 points, 3.9 rebounds and 4.4 assists per game.
"It was definitely good for me to play point for the Pistons. It was good to play against men, instead of playing against boys. It was a good learning experience," he told the New Zealand website.
He also stated how excited he is for the opportunity.
I've been waiting my whole life for this.
"I just want to play my hardest and whatever happens, happens. It's going to be a big year for me but I'll have to earn everything I get."
