Elkhorn LB emerging

At NFTC in May there were a number of players that everyone knew about, but just as interesting were the players that made a name for themselves that day. Elkhorn (Nebr.) South Nick McEwin impressed Fox Sports Next Midwest analyst that was in attendance.

Chicago NFTC was a great event. There were a number of big names in attendance battling it out and there were the lesser known that were trying to get their name out there. Nick McEwin, a 6-foot1 and 225-pound linebacker from Elkhorn (Nebr.) South, was one of a few players that grabbed Allen Trieu's eye.

"From a school that is only three years old," Trieu reported. "McEwin is just starting to get his name out, but made some nice plays in coverage on Sunday and is a strong, smart kid who is getting on the radar."

As a junior McEwin had a great season 105 total tackles including 57 solos, 43 assists and five tackles for loss. Those stats were good enough for all-district honors and honorable mention all-state.

McEwin has tremendous strength for a player at his position and his size. He says that he has a 380-pound bench press, a 540-pound squat, 520-pound dead-lift and a 29-inch vertical. McEwin is the 220-pound state champion power lifter after lifting a combined 1350-pounds.

"I went to the U.S. Army All-American Combine," McEwin stated. "I had the second highest reps at the combine of 29 and quite honestly it was not a personal best, as I did more at the National Underclassman Combine last year taking home Strongest Man Award."

McEwin has received a number of football and other academic honors. Check out McEwin's highlights from the NFTC back in May here:
