Braden Visits Bama

Braden Smith made the trip to Tuscaloosa last week, visiting Alabama and competing in front of Nick Saban during Crimson Tide Football Camp. Despite his staggering offer list, the five-star tackle has continued to say little about his recruitment. Go Inside as Smith's head coach recaps their visit…

To hear Olathe (KS) South's Jeff Gourley tell it, Braden Smith loved his visit to Alabama. Given the five-star prospect's reluctance to talk with the media about his recruitment, the veteran head coach is the only one talking about The Sunflower State standout's visit to Tuscaloosa last week.

"He was truly enjoying the moment," Gourley said of his blue-chip offensive tackle. "As he gets away from it, I hope he can analyze it more. I think he was extremely impressed by Alabama."

The Falcons' head coach accompanied the 6-foot-6, 292-pound man child and his family on their visit. Though Gourley has seen Smith's development up-close over his high school career, he came away impressed by the rising senior.

"Braden went down, and he took part in one camp session. He found out he truly is one of the best in the nation."

After his work on the field, Smith met with the Crimson Tide's head coach.

"We had a chance to meet with Nick Saban," Gourley said. "After he finished his robo-coach routine, he opened up and laughed and talked. He is a task master, but he truly cares about people."

Having grown up dreaming of going to Alabama, Smith's head coach couldn't turn down the chance to see the Tuscaloosa campus.

"Braden and his dad invited me, and I couldn't pass it up. I was going to Alabama, but then reality set in, and I went to William Jewell College. Alabama, in my mind, is the pinnacle. You can't go anywhere without recognizing the prestige and class you're enveloped by."

"I could very easily see Braden sign with Alabama," Gourley said of the massive blocker. "Or Notre Dame, TCU, or Texas A&M."
