With his Stonewall Jackson team primed for a big season, defensive tackle, Tim Settle is all business heading into the start of practice this week. Prior to the start of training camp, Settle recently made a day trip to Tuscaloosa to check out two-time defending national champion, Alabama.
"It was a good visit," Settle said of his time at Bama. "I got a personal tour and I got to chill with a couple of their players and Nick Saban."
Settle and Stonewall Jackson head coach, Mike Dougherty got to spend quality time with Coach Saban during the visit. During their one-on-one time, Settle says that he got a feel for who Saban is, and got to see his business-like mentality first hand.
"He's got no emotions," Settle said jokingly of Saban," He's real strict. You can just tell that he's a really strict coach."
Saban's demeanor contrasts sharply to that of Virginia coach, Mike London. London has been a constant during the course of Settle's recruitment and has put Virginia in the mix early.
"I really like him as a head coach," Settle said of London. "He's a really cool person to talk to. Whenever I go down there, we always hook up and he'll preach it to me, and I like what he is saying."
In mid July, Settle released an early top five of schools standing out to him. The list included, Virginia, Alabama, Ohio State, Oklahoma, and Florida. As his junior year of high school approaches, Settle says that he will need to re-evaluate where his recruitment stands.
"I really don't want to have a top five right now because this recruiting stuff is really getting to my head." Settle said. "I don't want to be confused or have anything like misconstrued."
Settle attended teammate, Greg Stroman's college commitment at Stonewall Jackson High School over the weekend. Stroman surprised many, including Settle by selecting Virginia Tech over Virginia and Duke. Settle says that he will "consider" the Hokies now that his teammate will head to Blacksburg.
As far as his next list, Settle says that it will be done after thorough evaluations of all of the schools that are interested in him.
"I'm going to take about 10 schools and average them and see what I like about which school and that's when I'm going to put out my top group," Settle said.
