Newby cleared by NCAA

Nebraska received good news that 2013 reruit Marcus Newby from Gaithersburg (Md.) Quince Orchard had been cleared to join the team in Lincoln.

Nebraska received some great news when the No. 27 outside linebacker in the nation, Marcus Newby, was finally cleared by the NCAA to join the team. The three-star prospect spoke with BigRedReport.com about how relieved he was to begin college on-time.

"This feels great," Newby said. "I really appreciate all the support that I have received. This feels great to get off of my back and I finally get to go to Lincoln, start my college career and do what I desperately wanted to do."

Newby got the good news yesterday when a member of the Nebraska staff called him. The sentiment shared by the Nebraska coaches was relief and happiness for Newby and his family through this long process.

"I found out the news yesterday. Coach John Papuchis called me. He was really fired up about the news and the entire staff was just extremely happy for me and my family that this all worked out."

The picture for Newby looked like he would be able to join the team in Lincoln. The only question was when? Since Newby has received word this week he will be joining the team this fall as opposed to January.

"We had believed that I was going to be able to join the team in Lincoln. The question was when? There were some thoughts that it would have to wait until January, but since I have been cleared I will be there tomorrow because classes start on Saturday."
