Blackwood ready for Nebraska visit

The Nebraska faithful are ready for the start of the season and how it dovetails into recruiting and official visitors. Rohan Blackwood from Brooksville (Flor.) Nature Coast Technical is set to see Nebraska open up their season against Wyoming.

The football season is upon us and for Rohan Blackwood and his Brooksville (Flor.) Nature Coast Technical team they have already had a preseason game. There is a week left until their season opener and there is some work to do.

"We had a preseason game last night," Blackwood said. "We didn't do very well. We just need to get better, all of us, as a team. It's all fixable. We just need to fix it."

Blackwood plays on both sides of the ball for NCT. On offense he is a big target, 6-foot-5 and 215-pounds, at receiver. On defense you can find him at one of two spots this season.

"On offense I am playing the X. I am typically lined out wide, but there is a formation that I slide in next to the tackle. More or less we try to get them in a cover 1 and I do a seam.

"On defense we do either a 4-3 or a 3-4. In the 4-3, I am on the tackle side in the five technique. In the 3-4, when there isn't a tight end, I walk up and get to rush."

The shift to outside linebacker some this season is giving Blackwood a look at his potential home after he finishes up his high school career.

"All of the college coaches like me as a hybrid defensive end, outside linebacker. This is my first year playing linebacker and I like it, I really like rushing the quarterback from there, and I can learn to work in space."

Off of the edge, either at the defensive end or the walk-up outside linebacker spot, Blackwood is a pass-rushing, quarterback harassing nemesis. He is getting sacks and when he doesn't get to the quarterback he is killing passing lanes by getting his hands up.

"I am really a pass rusher. I get after the quarterback from wherever I am lined up at and if I can't get there I get my hands up and can knock down passes or make interceptions from the line of scrimmage."

Nebraska opens up their season next weekend, at home, and the late start time will allow for Blackwood to travel to see the Huskers. He has been building a solid relationship with his recruiting coach and is looking forward to the visit.

"I am headed to Nebraska next weekend for an official visit," Blackwood said. "I am looking forward to meeting the coaching staff, seeing the game and checking out the atmosphere of the game while I am up there.

"Coach Rick Kaczenski and I have been building a great relationship. He and I message a lot over Facebook and stay in communication."
