Video: Newell explains Nebraska decision

The four-star DT talks about why he went with the Huskers.

Hiawatha, KS - With an offer list of over 30 schools, four-star defensive tackle Peyton Newell has announced he will be attending Nebraska.

"They have really been my favorite since the beginning," said Newell, who actually committed to the Huskers over Big Red Weekend, but decided to hold his announcement until today. "It's a great place to reach your full potential and the coaching staff is one of the best in the country."

The nation's No. 23 defensive tackle in the country, Newell recorded 61 tackles, 37 tackles for loss, five forced fumbles, two Fumble Recovered, and 10 sacks in 2012. He also logged 14 catches for 162 yards and three touchdowns from the tight end position.

"One of the things that separated the coaches from other schools was both the offensive and defensive coaches made an effort to reach out to me," said Newell. "The first time I went up there, there was something really special about it. The more and more I went up there; the more and more I liked it. I really went to those other schools to have something to compare to Nebraska."

On Thursday night, Peyton Newell sat down with Big Red Report to talk about his decision.
