The ceremony is set to begin at 2:30 p.m. CST. It will be part of the Hiawatha Fall Sports Rally. All three schools in the Hiawatha USD 415 school district will attend and it will be open to the public.
At the conclusion of the rally, Newell is scheduled to deliver a three minute speech and then make his announcement.
"I'm definitely excited for the process to be winding down. A lot of people have had an opinion on where I should go, some more than others," Newell said laughing. "I'm ready to pick a school."
Newell is a Scout.com four-star prospect, rated as the No. 23 defensive tackle nationally.
61 tackles, 37 tackles for loss, 5 forced fumbles, 2 Fumble Recovered, 10 sacks, 2 blocked PATs, 1 blocked punt (TD) - 14 catches for 162 yards and 3 TDs
Selected to both the Topeka Capital Journal and Wichita Eagle 1st Team All-State Defense. St Joseph News-Press Defensive Player of the Year. Big 7 All-League defensive line (Unanimous).
Plays as a stand up rusher in high school, using his combination of superior size and speed to put pressure on the offenses. He makes a bunch of plays behind the line of scrimmage and shows good burst and explosion when doing so. He is a sound tackler. It is tougher to give an honest evaluation of his actual skills and techniques on the interior, because he does not play there, but you know he will disrupt and fire in to gaps.
Scout.com will have Josh Harvey in attendance at the Newell announcement.
