Huskers impress Blackwood

Nebraska's only official visitor for the season opener is back in Florida tonight still thinking about Lincoln. The Huskers thoroughly impressed the OLB/DE this weekend.

Brooksville (Flor.) Nature Coast Technical defensive end Rohan Blackwood boarded a plane on Saturday morning and made his way to Nebraska for an official visit. The three-star defensive end prospect found some warmer than expected temperatures this weekend in Lincoln.

"I just landed in Florida," Blackwood said. "Nebraska was a little more warm than I expected this weekend. It was like Florida. I showed up in pants and everyone said they knew I was from Florida because I was in pants."

Rohan and his father got to the stadium around 2:00 or about five hours before kickoff on Saturday. That allowed him to check out the football facilities and the newly added east stadium renovations.

"My dad and I flew into Omaha on Saturday and got to Lincoln about 2:00 that afternoon. We got to see the facilities before the game. We saw the weight room, the stadium, the locker room and the performance center that Ndamukong Suh built. We also saw the new east stadium and the technology center."

This was Blackwood's first official visit, but there was a basis for comparison when it came to the game. Blackwood really liked the fan support at Nebraska from the team to even the recruits.

"The game environment there is crazy. I have been to a game at Florida before, but the fans there at Nebraska really love this team. I came out of the tunnel before the team and it was so loud. The fans there follow recruiting and they knew my name. That was great.

"The tunnel walk for the team was nice. We got out there and watched the team come out. It was so loud I literally couldn't even think. They were all really fired up. I really enjoyed the visit. I enjoyed the time with the coaches. It really impressed me."

Nebraska played a lot of true freshman and newcomers to the team on Saturday night, particularly on defense. Blackwood recognized that and said that is a selling point to him that the Nebraska staff is committed to winning and will play younger players.

"I liked that they played the younger players and the style of their defensive line. Lots of those players out there on defense were playing in their first game. I thought they did fine. The Nebraska coaches told me that I remind them of Randy Gregory. I could really see myself there at Nebraska."

The No. 94th rated defensive end in the country left Lincoln completely impressed. He loved the approach that the Nebraska coaching staff took with him as well as how the system is set up to make sure that you succeed on and off the football field.

"Nebraska really impressed me with everything that they showed me and that they told me. They are all about business and so am I. They showed me how they have their program set up to help their players succeed. If you go there and you fail then you didn't want it. That's on you."

Blackwood said that he will take an official visit to Wisconsin next weekend and said that he has no plans on committing anywhere soon.
