Huskers impress Kalu

Nebraska picked off four Southern Miss passes this weekend returning two for touchdowns. Josh Kalu says that he can definitely see himself in the Blackshirt defense.

Houston (Texas) Taylor defensive back Josh Kalu took his first official visit this weekend. The 6-foot-2 and 180-pound Kalu got up to Nebraska on Friday to start his visit.

"I got up there on Friday," Kalu said. "I took an academic tour when I got up there and I liked it a lot. They are definitely there to help you out as a player and a student."

Kalu said that on Saturday he got a chance to see the football facilities more closely. The recruits also got a chance to meet a lot of the support staff for the football team as well before the game started.

"The facilities were really nice; I liked the locker room. I talked to the strength and conditioning coach and how they work with each player to maximize their potential. I also talked to the nutritionist. They definitely work very closely with all of the players."

Before the start of the game the team comes out of the tunnel and Kalu was blown away by that experience. He said that he couldn't believe how many fans were yelling his name and wants his autograph.

"The tunnel walk was great. Everyone was yelling my name. It was a great experience. It was a great atmosphere in the stadium all the way up to the end of the game."

Nebraska held their opponent to just 13 points and had four interceptions. Two of those four interceptions were returned for touchdowns and that was definitely something that caught Kalu's eye.

"I really liked the defensive performance this weekend. I spoke with the coaches a lot about the defense after the game and how I fit in. They really work to put you in the right place to make plays."

The three-star rated safety said that the fans were what he will remember most about the weekend.

"I really liked the fans the most this weekend," Kalu said. "I would rate the visit a "10". they have 90,000 fans in their stadium for every home game."

There were some thoughts coming into the weekend that Kalu might pull the trigger on a commitment. He didn't, but says that the Huskers are on top of his list right now.

"I didn't commit, but since I I have been able to visit and meet the coaches I would say that Nebraska is on top of my list. I am looking at tacking visits to Washington State, Iowa State and Wake Forest."
