"We are 7-2 and things are going good," Gates said. "We lost our two games against out of state opponents which were nationally televised.
"We are 2-0 right no in district and I think that we have things going in the right direction. I think that I am having a good season. I feel very strong this year."
Gates has his first official visit coming up this weekend. The 6-foot-5 and 270-pound offensive lineman doesn't have any other visits set up as of right now.
Gates says that there are four teams that are standing out the most right now. One of the biggest reasons why Gates likes those four schools has to do with the connection he has to their coaching staffs.
"My top four are Nebraska, Arizona, Oregon and A&M. I really like the coaches at all of those schools. They are very good at calling me every week and that let's me know how bad they want me. I like it."
There may be a chance for one more official visit during the season according to Gates. All of the other visits will have to wait until after the season is over with.
"I think that I could take one more official visit before the end of our season. I am not sure when though or to which school. All of my other trips will be after the season."
Gates stays in consistent contact with the Nebraska staff. The relationship that started this summer has really taken off since June.
"I talk to Barney Cotton from Nebraska all of the time," Gates said. "The relationship that we are building is going good. I like him a lot. I like the way that he coaches. We worked together a lot this summer at camp."
