"That was an awesome finish," Newell said. "After the game Ndamukong Suh came in and addressed the team in the locker room. He said that the final plays by the defense today were championship football.
"Everyone criticizes this team, but they are so young and inexperienced. You hear a comment like that and you have to give them credit because of where things are headed."
Suh is a person that up to this point Newell had not had a chance to meet through the recruiting process. There were famous people on all of his trips, but Suh was a special one to Newell.
"It definitely meant a lot. I have met a lot of people through the process and pretty soon it was just another person, but Suh with me is different. He's one of my favorites and I truly look up to him as a player and a person."
Newell has been in Lincoln for all of the home games and can frequently be seen talking to the official visitors that Nebraska is trying to get to join him in the class. What did he tell the visitors today?
"I spent a lot of time talking with the recruits today," Newell said. "I just told them that they will know when they know. I also told them why I chose Nebraska and that the people here care about you and who you are. That was the difference for me."
